I was bought a Wii this week by my kids as they thought i had done a lot of work recently and deserved it!!!! We all enjoy the Wii Sports and Various other games bought to date but the geek in me wants to explore the system more. Here are some of the questions you may be able to help me with.

Can i receive my .mac or gmail on the Wii message server? Can i get it to play DVDs? Is the 480p that much better? Can it be used for any other Media use i.e music with cracks to the
system? Do you know of any cool extras?

A

You can send email to and from your Wii through Wii Mail. There isn’t really an effective way to work with your Gmail or .Mac accounts. You could forward copies of your mail to your Wii address, and in this scenario, you would be replying from your Wii address, not your gmail or .mac, so it’s not a practical solution. Your Wii email address is “w################@wii.com”. Replace the ##’s with your Wii address. You can find this by going into the Message center and then the Address Book.

A modding chip was just released to allow you to play DVDs on your Wii. It’s from Team Symbiote, and it’s called WiiBoss. Modifying your Wii isn’t for everyone, but if you’re confident in your abilities, or just want to give it a try, go for it!

There are lots of fun things you can do with your Wii. For example, WiinRemote allows you to use your Wiimote as a mouse for your Windows PC. If you’re interested in getting even more out of your Wii, browse Wiihacks.com for some ideas.
