View PDF Files in Firefox

Q

I am a big fan of Firefox, running on an Intel Mac. There is one feature that has been missing on Firefox, which is previewing PDFs on the browser. Could you recommend any tool/app/program/script that could eliminate this problem?

A

There’s a Firefox Add-on called PDF Download. Once you download the plugin, restart Firefox. The next time you click on a PDF link while you’re browsing, you’ll get a pop up box like this:

Choose “View as HTML” to view the file in your browser. You can also set different preferences by going to the Tools menu in Firefox, and choosing PDF Download - Options. If you’d prefer to have the add-on always open PDF files as HTML, you can set it up to do that. You can also set it up to open the file in the same tab or a new tab.

There are lots of Firefox Add-ons that can help you get more out of your browser. You can browse the plugins here. Be conscience of how many you’re adding, though. You don’t want to cause Firefox to get too “heavy”, or you’ll notice it getting slower and having more issues.
