Search Checked Only Items in iTunes

My question is specific to iTunes. When I connect my iPod to update it, 9 times out of 10 I get the message basically saying that there is not enough space for all of the items I wish to put on my iPod. I have iTunes set only to sync podcasts that are “checked”, but until the iPod is connected I can’t tell exactly how much space these selected podcasts will use. Through using the search in iTunes I am able to, for example, see only podcasts with the words “geekbrief” and “iPhone”, and at the bottom of the window I can see how many items include these words, how much space they take up, and how much time they are, collectively. I would love to be able to do this, only with checked podcasts. Do you know if this is possible?

The best way to accomplish what you’re looking to do is to create a Smart Playlist. With Smart Playlists, you create parameters for what you want in your playlist. You can include all your podcasts by setting it up to look like this:

Make sure you have the “Match only checked items” box checked. At the bottom of the playlist, you’ll see how much space these podcasts will take. When you uncheck an episode in either “Podcasts” or your new Smart Playlist, the other will update as well.
