Quicktime Caches

Q

I took your advice from The Dear Cali Show #7 and downloaded What Size, the software you mentioned to help free up space. I love it. I have found so much crap on my hard drive that must go the way of the Dodo. I did find that I have over 2 GB of Quicktime Caches. What is that? Can I delete these, or are they important for Quicktime? I can’t see how they are important.

A

Quicktime caches all the Quicktime files you browse online. It’s safe to delete them.

You can set the size of your Quicktime cache in Quicktime Preferences, and I’m guessing your preferences will show a fairly high allotment of space. My Quicktime cache with the settings below is 26.4MB. You can get here by either opening Quicktime, choosing the Quicktime Player menu, then Quicktime Preferences, or by opening System Preferences/Quicktime.

You can empty your Quicktime Cache using the button above, and you can choose to disable this feature by unchecking the box “Save movies in disk cache”.
