Paid Digital Downloads

Q

I produced a nature DVD and now have a website. I would like customers to have the option of purchasing the DVD as a video download — for a nominal fee — then they could burn it to their own DVD. So it needs to be SD or an HD download. How can I accomplish this?

A

You may be a little ahead of your time if you’re wanting to distribute true HD content as a download. :) A 4 minute episode of GeekBrief.TV is 3GB uncompressed. You’re probably going to want to use compression. To achieve the best look at the lowest file size, I like DivX.

Premiumcast.com is a service that allows you to offer digital downloads for a fee. This can be anything, from a DVD download to a paid podcast. When you sign up through this link and use Promo Code “gb1″, you can get the first month at a dollar (Pro Account), or Promo Code “gb2″ to get the first month at a dollar (Viral Account).

I would be much more interested in getting my wife’s DVDs to be available in iTunes, but there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to accomplish this. It is *really* unfortunate. Do you have ideas about how to go about that?
