Monitor Recommendations

Q

I just bought a new Mac Pro but have not bought a display yet because the Apple Displays are a little bit pricey. Do you know a large display (23-30 Inches) that does not cost as much as the Apple Displays?

A

Dell UltraSharp monitors tend to get a lot of praise when compared to Apple Cinema Displays. Apple, though, has been pretty competitive with Dell in pricing. Right now, you can get a 24″ for $669 and a 30″ for $1269 from Dell. When we shop for displays, we care most about size, then resolution, and then contrast ratio. We also care about how the display looks, and that’s mainly why most of our monitors are from Apple.

Also check out refurbished displays from Apple. Right now the price for a refurbished 23-inch Cinema Display is $749.00.

I just purchased the Samsung SyncMaster 24″ Widescreen LCD Monitor (245BW) and have been very happy with it. Very nice 24″ monitor at an exceptional price. It also got a very good review from the guys over at dl.tv.

Just bought the parents a 24-inch Dell monitor (2407WFP) after buying one for myself a few months ago. It’s an awesome monitor.

I did get a dead pixel in mine, however, at a very irritating location. :-(
