Manually Add a Show in iTunes

Q

I submitted my podcast to iTunes, but haven’t gotten confirmation back. Is there another way people can get it in iTunes?

A

Any show, audio or video, with an RSS feed can be manually added to iTunes. When I record a Dear Cali Show, I release them in the GeekBrief.TV feed, but I also post them on this site, so if you wanted to, you could use this method to subscribe only to the Dear Cali feed, which of course, would make me sad. ;-)

1) If the site publishes their RSS feed, copy the link and move on to Step 2. If the site doesn’t publish their RSS feed on the site, you can usually guess it if they’re using a CMS (Content Management System) like WordPress or Blogger.

For WordPress sites, just add a “/feed” (www.dearcali.com/feed). For Blogger sites, it’ll either look like this: http://pixeloo.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default or like this: http://feeds.feedburner.com/BloggerBuster

2) Once you have the feed copied, open iTunes. Click on the “Advanced” menu, then choose “Subscribe to Podcast…”

3) You’ll get a blank box. Paste the RSS feed in the box, then click on “OK”.

Let it download the first show, and enjoy!

    Hey Cali,

I could be completely wrong but I think this question is referring to getting ones OWN podcast listed in the iTunes store, not how to add a podcasts feed to iTunes. Just a heads up :)

About posting on iTunes. This is more in relation to the way geek brief is posted on iTunes. Geek brief’s kbps for large video is too large. The recommended largest size is 1.5 mbps. Your large files are over 3 mbps. Those videos don’t alway work when I connect my laptop to my TV. If you make them Please refer to the Apple page:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcaststechspecs.html#formattingvideo4 With Mpeg4 files you can go up to 2.5 mbps it says. Now where’s my pay for looking that up for you. Joke.

My Mystic Babylon Podcast is having minor problems with interlacing and progressive scaning, because I shoot with a regular TV broadcast camera. I usually convert it to Mpeg4, but it doesn’t convert perfectly. Next experiment is I’m going to try de-interlacing.

    Hi Cali,

What about for people new to podcasting?

I have my show hosted on Mevio, and have it embedded in my wordpress site, but can’t figure out how to make it work in iTunes.

Do you have to host the files yourself to make the feed work in iTunes?

    Thanks,

    John
