iPod Repairs

I’ve had my video ipod since it first came out and i haven’t really taken care of the screen and am now regretting it. Is there any tool out there to fix all the scratches that have accumulated through my years of abuse? Will Apple replace the clear plastic face for me for a fee?

If the warranty for your iPod has expired, Apple will replace your iPod for a service fee, listed here. But you can go to an outside repair service, like Rapid Repair (formerly iPodMods), and they will fix your iPod for less. You send them your iPod, they’ll replace the broken part, and send it back to you.

Thank you for this post! I have a scratched ipod screen and I have really wanted to find a solution! THANKS!!!!
another option is to go to a plexiglass supplier (industrial plastics etc; most large cities have a few) and get plexiglass scratch repair solution.
The best thing to use is a brand called Novus.
I got all 3 grades at the local Ace Hardware store.
Novus 1 & 2 are a liquid with suspended particles of “grit”, where #3 is more course than #2.
Novus 3 is a spray Antifog, Antistatic & dust repellant
Novus 3 - Heavy Scratch Remover
Use for deep scratches
Novus 2 - Fine Scratch Remover
Use for light scratches & a precursor to Novus 1
Novus 1 - Cleans, Shines & Protects
Resists fog, repels dust eliminates static & protects against smudges & scratching
I highly recommend not using anything besides Novus 1 on anything that isn’t already in bad shape.
Novus 2 & 3 ARE NOT MAINTENANCE for plastics,
I got a 5th Gen iPod Video that had scratches already from a case that allowed crud to accumulate.
I found the Novus 1 2 3 system & have had a nice screen ever since.
I used to use Novus 1 2 3 at a local Casino I worked at to clean the Bill Acceptor optics from slot machines.
I swear by it!
It rocks!
This black screened text input box SUCKS
I hope Cali can edit posts!
The 5th line I posted above should say Novus 1 is a spray antifog - NOT Novus 3 - Yikes
Before you get scratches or after you fix the scratch use the Invisible Shield protective film, it even removes some minor scratches. I have it on every gadget I own, it is truly amazing.
I buy broken iPods from people on eBay, fix them up, and sell them to other people on eBay. It’s a strange hobby of mine. The best product I’ve used for removing scratches is “Ice Creme” from Radtech.

For working on the plastic areas, you just need the regular kit. The “M” version comes with a pad (really fine “sandpaper” on a foam pad), which does work well on the metal surface. The “Creme” is an mildly abrasive polisher, so depending on how bad the scratches are, it can take some effort to make it “like new.” But even a little effort will greatly improve the look, especially in the screen area.
I tried some commonly available “tricks” like toothpaste, brasso, and jewelry polishing cloth, but this stuff just works much better.
I’m a big fan of your podcast, BTW…
