iMovie for Editing Large Files

Q

I have one big .mov file (approx 1GB) that I need to reedit. Can I use iMovie HD to cut out scenes and put them together in a smaller video? Or will I need some other aplication to cut out the clips i need?

A

Absolutely. iMovie makes cutting clips very easy. You can make it even easier by placing the playhead where you want to cut and use the shortcut CMD-T. The size of the original file doesn’t matter. It’ll just take a bit longer to import. :) Uncompressed GeekBrief.TV files are about 3GB.

The bad thing about iMovie is that it fragments the hard drive, so if you use it a lot, it degrades performance. That’s why we recently did a fresh install, because our video was starting to choke.
