Hosting Services

Do you recommend a particular hosting service?

I recommend a couple depending on your needs.
I use and LOVE DreamHost. First of all, it’s completely employee owned and operated which just seems kind of groovy to me. They offer a tremendous amount of reliable bandwidth from the start. Your bandwidth allocation increases every month you’re with them. Your disk storage space also increases over time.
You can get 20% extra bandwidth by using my promo code “cali” when you sign up for a Dreamhost account. For disclosure sake, I get a commission if you sign up with them using my code. Just so you know, I’ve had an account with them for two years, and out of 12 hosting companies I’ve used in my life, Dreamhost has been the best.
If you’re looking for a more hands on, personalized experience, talk to our friend Dave Kaufman at dk worldwide. He focuses on small to mid-size customers by providing hands on training, and can help with the setup of your Web site. He’ll hold your hand, if you need that. He also will help you set up email service including Blackberry or Treo support.

What? What’s up with GoDaddy? I must be living in a different world.
I second that recommendation. I’ve used 3 web hosts over the years, and now I’ve got 6 of my 9 domains hosted with Dreamhost. A great deal and great features.
Mediatemple in my opinion is, the best web host I’ve ever used (my friends are also loyal users)! You get a great product for a fair price (I have had my account for almost 3 years and the price has never gone up)! Also the 24/7/365 support is awesome (and willl answer any question no matter how stupid it is). They pretty much cater to anyone from an expert to a novice.
What I also love is that my server/servicd is constantly being upgraded - no charge. I went from having a few hundred MBs of space to 2GB!
After hearing of the hacking insident that effected 3500 dreamhosts accounts, I am so glad I went with mediatemple instead of them 3 years ago when I was shopping around for hosting!
Hi all!
I am a convinced ecologist, and by being so, and also being a convinced geek having multiple websites, I looked around for a eco-friendly hosting company, and I found this one: http://www.horus.ch/horus.en.shtml
This company electricity is given by the sun! So it’s 100% eco-friendly, and even more they give 10% of their revenue to non-profitable organisations.
They also offer email, with very effective spam filters.
Hope you’ll like it.
If you register your domains at GoDaddy (or another registrar), can you add the domain to Dreamhost without transferring the domain to Dreamhost (i.e., changing the nameservers in godaddy to ns*.dreamhost.com)?
Thanks Cali
