HD DVD Content on the Computer

Q

Hi Cali, I have a question for you. I just bought a 30″ Apple HD Display (OMG, it’s awesome). I have a Macbook Pro, I get over the air HD content through the Miglia (thank you for the recommendation). Anyways, I am trying to figure out a way to get High Definition DVD content into my Mac. PS3 sounds like a great idea, Blu Ray player and next gen gaming console. But I don’t own an HDTV. I was wondering if you know a way to have a PS3 connected to my Mac, via HDMI or Composite/Component, or any other input device that would do that.

A

You can get an HDMI to DVI cable to connect the PS3 to your Cinema Display, and enjoy your HD DVD content. If you want to use the Mac itself, FastMac has two different Blu-ray drives you can install. For Macs with a slim optical drives (MacBook Pro and iMac) they have a Slimline option. For Macs like Mac Pros and PowerMacs, they have tray loading drives. Also the price is relatively low.

Does the AACS Licensing Authority give mac the authorization to play HDDVD/Blueray content? I know they won’t let XP have it because of fear that XP isn’t DRMed enough to keep everyone from copying their content. Vista on the other hand is DRMed from end (physical drive) to end (HDMI complient monitor).
