Disable Startup Sound

I bought a MacBook Pro several months ago. Turning the computer ON will bring this sound and I do not know on how to disable this.

The “boing” you hear when you turn on your computer is the “startup sound”. There are a couple temporary options you can use to turn off your startup sound. One is to start your Mac while holding down the mute button. Once you see the Apple logo, you can let go of the mute button. If you know you’re going to be in a meeting the next time you’ll start your computer, you can turn the turn the volume all the way down before shutting down.
You can disable the startup sound permanently, or turn the volume up or down by installing StartupSound.prefPane. Once installed, you can control the volume by going into System Preferences, and choose “Startup Sound” in the “Other” section.

Here’s how to disable the startup sound on a PC, using XP:
Click on the “Start” menu, then choose “Settings”, then “Control Panels”. Choose “Sounds and Audio Devices”. Make sure the “Sounds” tab is open. Under “Program Events”, single click on “Start Windows”, then change the “Sounds” from “Windows XP Settings” to “None”. Do the same for “Windows Logon”. Choose “Apply”.
If you’re on Vista, click on the “Start” menu, then “Control Panel”. Choose the Sound Icon. Click on the “Sounds” tab, look for “Play Windows Startup Sound”, and uncheck the box. Click “OK”, and you’re set!

Hi, the tip for Windows is not correct. If you do this, you only mute the Windows startup sound not the Mac startup chime. The Macbook sound is a POST test indicating that the computer is ok, when starting.
