Copy DVD Image

Q

We just recently purchased a iMac which is way cool and I don’t get much sleep anymore because I’m always on it figuring things out. What I am stumped by is backing up my DVDs. I want to create a library of the DVDs I already have and access them from my mac. I remember you mentioning a software package that backups the entire DVD and goes through the menu and all. That is what I’m looking for.

What you’re looking for is Drive-in. It’s a very simple way to copy your DVD collection, including menu navigation and special features. Drive-in is only copying an image of the DVD, it’s not ripping the DVD. All copyright protection is kept, so you won’t be able to share your files, and you won’t be able to edit the files.

Here’s how it works. When you put the DVD in your Mac, you’ll get a pop-up box asking you if you’d like to open Drive-in. Then you can put in the DVD’s SKU number from the case, and it’ll automatically fill in the title, description, actors, etc. Or, you can input the information manually.

It’s a great option for storing your DVDs on your home theater system so you don’t have to pull out cases all the time. If you’re like me, the cases will stay scattered about the house for weeks! This gives you a no-mess solution.
