Convert DVDs to AppleTV

In the past, I’ve covered how to rip DVDs and make them available to watch on your AppleTV. I want to re-visit that issue.

There are new applications that rip DVDs and automatically move the Apple TV ready files to iTunes. This is one step rather than the previous two steps, and I’m all about saving time!

One application is called DVD to Apple TV, and it works for both Macs and PCs. It’s $29.95 for Windows users and $35 for Mac users.

DVD to Apple TV Converter is $35 and Mac only. Xilisoft DVD to Apple TV Converter is $29, and Windows only.

I still prefer Visual Hub, though, they just upgraded to include better encoding for both Apple TV and the iPhone.

Probably the best DVD ripper I’ve used is Handbrake at: http://handbrake.fr/
It has AppleTV settings and is only 2 steps, create a file and then drag it into iTunes.

    Hi,

Just thought I would add my twopenneth….

I use Handbrake but I point the default rip location to the Movies folder in iTunes, once its ripped, I click on the File and with the right setting in iTunes it appears as a managed file in iTunes.

    …so Cali, 1 1/2 steps

I live in the UK and hope that somehow the profile of both Apple TV and all things Geekbrief and Calicentric continue to grow and grow.
