Backing Up a SIM Card

I was wondering if you knew of a device that would allow me to take all the information from my SIM card on my cell phone and back it up on my desktop. I was thinking while in the shower that there are many numbers to family members which I am embarrassed to say, I do not know and if I lost my phone ( or it broke), I would be in trouble.
How do you ask your brother for his number when you talk to him on a regular basis? Would be weird!

We all rely on our phones, and everybody I know is lost if they don’t have their phone and they need a phone number. I think your brother would probably understand. He probably doesn’t know your number either! :) There are a million SIM Card Backup gadgets you can get. Here’s one. Here’s another. You insert the SIM card into the reader and it’ll backup the data. It also works the other way so you can restore the information back onto a SIM card.
Some people like to have a backup. You should be able to get a blank SIM card at most mobile phone shops, eBay, or from your service provider.
UPDATE: Please see the comments section for a free, online backup service.
